The contents inside the DB are encrypted, one of the factors used for encrypting the data is also the license itself. The license can be seen as an encryption key itself, so you need the correct license to decrypt already encrypted data in the DB.
By using a license, which was not based on the initial setup license, this means a different encryption key is used, which can not be used to decrypt the data encrypted for another encryption key.
When we renew licenses, we use the initial license and modify the date range, amount of users, or feature flags.
This however is not a renewal of an existing license, but a new productive license, therefore already encrypted data with the old license in the DB can not be decrypted with this new license.
